A visit to the San Francisco Bay Area must include a stop at Filoli Gardens and House in Woodside, about 30 minutes south of San Francisco, if you're into historic houses and extensive manicured gardens.

"Filoli was built for Mr. and Mrs. Bourn, prominent San Franciscans whose chief source of wealth was the Empire Mine, a hard-rock gold mine in Grass Valley, California. He arrived at the unusual name Filoli by combining the first two letters from the key words of his credo: Fight for a just cause; Love your fellow man; Live a good life.:

(I might just be borrowing that credo)

Filoli has 1000 volunteers who work on the grounds and give tours.

AND it often rented as a mansion filming location for such popular shows as:

* Dynasty
* The Wedding Planner
* Heaven Can Wait
* Dying Young (Julia Roberts)

There are about 500 acres total and in Spring the blooming flowers will be amazing.

It's an easy visit if you're in Silicon Valley, lots of incredible artwork and the mansion is in incredible shape. I can't recommend it highly enough!
