Check out http://www.smokefree.gov/ - a pretty comprehensive site with resources to help you quit!

Go for it TODAY! It'll hurt but in the long run it is so much better + multiply the money you save x 365 and think of all the treats you can buy yourself with your savings.

After lots of stumbling and figuring out how to deal with the monster cravings, I finally did it. I've been smoke-free for almost a month solid. I still have terrible cravings, but knowing I'd have to go through all this again if I gave in helps keep me on track.

Thing is, now that I've stopped smoking, I feel hungry ALL THE TIME. Like, deep-in-the-gut hunger pangs like you'd feel if you hadn't eaten for two days. Doesn't really do much for my weight loss goals, but there it is. *sigh*

I quit just over a year ago, having been a (heavy) smoker from my early teens, it was difficult. Incidentally, it took three attempts, but it was my ex-boyfriend's "I don't think you can quit," that really brought out my stubborn side and helped me accomplish it at last.

Granted, the patch helped too. And a of of teeth brushing. And drinking water.

The only downside is the weight gain. My suggestion is not to worry too much about it while you're in "quit mode". It's been a year, and I've turned into a total health nut in trying to get the weight off: the upside is that... duuuuude, I can totally do a solid hour of hard cardio now without being the least bit winded. It's awesome. Quality of life is through the roof, now that there are so many more active hobbies made available to me: rock climbing, kayaking, endurance running... Frankly, the adrenaline high is much more satisfying that a nic fix.

Good Job! I'm on my 5th day of not smoking and starting to feel better. Day 4 was totally my worst so far!

I smoked my last cigarette today, right after I signed up for some personal training sessions. Go ME!
