	pinkyracer says: 08/12/2007	I've done this on the northern route, I think it was 70. Borrrrrring!!!!! Then last month, I took i-10 cross-country. It was so much more interesting! Stopped in Vegas, Marfa, TX, Austin, TX, New Orleans, Birmingham, Atlanta, Charlotte, and then here in Chapel Hill, NC. Totally changed my whole outlook and attitude about Texas.
	nbabyak says: 05/30/2007	I have traveled both 40 and 90 with short sections on 60 and 80. There really have been no sections I would consider unsafe... keep your eye on the weather... plan at least 2 extra days for being stuck in a blizzard... and you will have a great time!

	Piscesbelle says: 01/05/2006	Plan your route and buy a travel book about all the small towns you'll pass through and but something unique about all of them like fresh farm jams. Don't drive north in winter southern route is longer but safer in winter. Look for the Travel J's -as a single female I found these the safest to stop for necessities and bathrooms. Don't fear the truckers, most have good insight on the roads. Bring lots of music or books on Cd, some of the landscape can drag on and on and you'll run out of things to do to keep your mind stimulated. Check your cell phone coverage or bring a cell phone map to recoqnize signals etc.
	susiew says: 12/28/2005	I have done this 2 times. -Pick your route based on the time of year / weather. -Bring a printout of Trader Joe's locations (if you're a hopeless aficionado like me). -All interstates have big boring chunks of repetitive landscape in the middle, so ignore that factor in choosing. Here are some highlights I remember: 1) Hwy 90 - Awesome for Yellowstone and through northern states. Some deadly boring field countryside though. 2) Hwy 80 - It has its charms. Stop in Newton, Iowa at the Maytag blue cheese factory! :) I drove by Chicago just for a few hours to the Art Institute. If you're near Bettendorf/Davenport Iowa at sleep time, a hotel called the Abbey which was formerly a nunnery but was refurbished to a multi-star hotel is a great experience. 3) Hwy 70 - Fun through Tennessee and other southern places. 4) Hwy 40 and 10 have their charms but I don't recollect off hand! Safety: Get AAA's long distance towing emergency plan.

I've done this! It's so amazing I saw as many as US attractions as possible like the Biggest Cross in America and Grand Canyon and Graceland. Crossing over the Mississippi, the beautiful Tenessee mountains and Opryland. We have a beautiful Nation!
