i live in london so i probably dont apreciate the sights as much as tourists. but if you do visit try to squeeze as many things as possible in and wake up early! you'd be surprised by how many things you can do other than seeing landmarks! visit the usual big ben, wheel of london, tower bridge and buckingham palace-you night even see the queen if your very lucky! visit the london dungeons, visit the british museum and tour the tower of london! its easier on foot around here because theres a lot of traffic and no where to park.
Oh and please dont think all english people talk posh like you see on american films when americans try and do an english accent, no one talks like only some of the upper class people.
go on http://www.visitlondon.com/ to get some more ideas and how to get places easily.

Highlights of my London trip from 2005 were:
-dancing at a club on Old Street, a very cool area
-the Borough`s Market. Even though locals complain it`s very touristy it`s a nice place to come face to face with artisanal cheese makers. Better yet it is next to Neal`s Yard Dairy, the mecca of English cheese. Next door to the dairy is a great coffee roasting company with fabulous pastries. All in all a nice way to spend a Saturday morning.
.
I recommend that you investigate going to Wales if you are taking a long trip. It looks like a pretty cool place with milder weather than London and (you guessed I`d say this) lots of small food producers.
