I want to get my family motto somewhere where I can see it (i.e. not back) and that it can be completely hidden because of work.

Find something you like, that isn't flashy, try not to be trite, and get it done. The pain is relative to where you have it done. I decided to get mine done one day, I got my favorite book quote inked across my neck. It will always mean something to me.

Alot of people will say it hurts, but that's relative to three things - how much pain you've felt in your life, where it's at, and how detailed it is. Personally, I thought mine all felt great. So great that I wish they had clear ink just so I could get more without using valuable skin space. Two warnings though - look around at alot of different artists' profiles, and be aware because it is extremely addictive. I don't smoke, I hardly drink (and I'm Irish), and I've used very few illegal drugs, but as I got my first one I was already making plans to get my next two the day after. Good thing I have a laundry list of ones I genuinely want to get done. But NO MATTER WHAT you do, do NOT EVEN TOUCH them unless you're DABBING on CUREL lotion, which you have to do constantly. I slacked off just a bit and now all of mine need touchups.

Don't get any flash - the crap on the walls - unless you don't mind having something that everyone else has already. I went to see my artist today! I might be getting it done next week !

They only say you can't give blood for one year after, it's just to make sure that you haven't contracted HIV from the needle. I know this because I've got tats and I've donated blood afterwards.

is that true, you can't give blood once you've got a tat?

I've wanted to do this for years and watching "Miami Ink" on Bravo makes me want to do it more. I even know what I want to draw but I feel so guilty because I keep thinking, if I do this then I won't be able give blood anymore. Oh well.

I got my first tattoo today: a skeleton key between my shoulder blades, directly on the spine, in black and grey, by a brilliant guy named Rob from Adrenaline in Montreal. (Dude's got a butterfly touch, because it barely hurt at all.) I can't wait to add to it. I'm hooked. :D

Once you get it. Its there for life.
So make sure its something you really want. I have 5 and I'm thinking about another. I just don't know where to put it.

Here's one man's cautionary tale about getting a tattoo :)

I think the thing is to tattoo something you're passionate about, like the superviva logo ;) ha ha

I think if you get a tattoo you have to wait a full year before you give blood.....per my sister who is a nurse. That's a good question to google!

This is really just something I think everyone should experience. I am petrafied of needles, but this helped me in more ways than one. I got a beautiful welsh dragon on my right shoulder without even flinching. lol! And it it true what they say, once you get one, your hooked for life. haha!
