Visiting Glass Beach was on my "to do in Summer 2006" list. Well, it's now the summer of 2009 and I finally did it. It was completely worth the wait.

I'd heard people say there's no glass left and other people say it's not allowed to take glass. Fort Bragg natives said the opposite. Obviously in a public place it's better to just take a little memoir. But if you are a glass fanatic and especially sea glass, this beach will BLOW you away.

Imagine a place that has more glass than rocks, where the water makes a tinkling sound as it laps against glass, where the glass is so sanded it looks like rocks. Totally blew me away. Here are some of my photos.

If you're going north on Hwy 1, turn left at the Denny's and park where the road dead ends.

Enjoy!

It was awesome! There was tons of glass, most of it very small, and lots of pottery shards too.

Glass Beach is a fun place to go and an interesting historical site. If you can't make it there and would like to read a little about the beach, there is a great book that was written by a 10 year old. It's called The Evolution of Glass Beach by Libby Lane. You can email her about the book at lane@mcn.org

Someone just asked me if I'd been here, and he reminded me I've been meaning to go to Glass Beach for 10 years now! It is a former dump but a gold mine for sea glass.

Did you find a lot of sea glass?
