Do Something Different On Memorial Day

arlington cemeteryThis Memorial Day (Monday May 26, 2008), enjoy your barbeques. But how about also celebrating life by doing something on your life list? Or actively observing the meaning of this important holiday?

For example…

  1. Learn the details of a past war, such as World War II, through first hand accounts.
  2. Read war diaries from the Iraq war
  3. Help a veteran record memories in the Veteran’s History Project at PBS. Or better yet if you personally know a veteran, video record his or her stories and post it online as a tribute! One of my cherished experiences was interviewing a WW1 veteran who still stuttered from nerve gas.
  4. Pause at 3 p.m., local time, on Memorial Day in an act of national unity (duration: one minute). The National Moment of Remembrance was established by Congress.
  5. Look into volunteering to help veterans.

Have You Always Wanted to be Indiana Jones ?

indiana jonesIndiana Jones madness! Can you wait for the movie? I can’t.

In Living Like Indiana, Inc Magazine recently wrote a delightful article chronicling various adventures you can take that will immerse you in similar adventures to Indiana Jones.

Comparing Goals on SuperViva to Indiana Jones

In a random sampling here are some observations on what’s on SuperViva Life Lists vs. Indiana’s adventures:

John Goddard has perhaps the world’s most famous life list, filled with daring adventures that make Indiana Jones look like a wimp. Check out what Goddard has done.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE ARTICLE: Don’t let the high prices in the articles deter you from wanting to be a strange-animal-eating swashbuckling safari-outfit-wearing adventurer. You can do many of the adventures listed at a fraction of the price of the tours in the Inc. article. For example in various parts of the world you can find archaeological digs designed for tourists or school kids to try their hand at finding arrowheads etc.
