A few months ago Esquire Magazine published 75 Things a Man Should Do in their 75th anniversary issue. It’s not that the list is so thrilling, but that the more ambitious 175 Things list in Esquire inspired my first life list in 1999.
(The one I always remember is “shave a woman’s legs.”)
So in honor of Esquire’s epic life list tradition, I throw down a challenge—for both women and men—to list 75 Things Every Woman Should Do. Find ideas on SuperViva, from your own list, or just make them up as you go…

The Collaborative List
When the list is 75 items strong, I’ll post it a life list on SuperViva that you can copy from, like these lists.
- Do something only men usually do
- Help a child you don’t know
- Report a crime
- Save someone’s life
- Change a tire by yourself. Or at least know how.
- Write a poem to yourself
- Go somewhere that scares you from afar
- Do something you thought you’d never do
- Give a stranger on the street a bold compliment
- Whistle at a construction worker
- Say no
And now for yours…
Dec 1 Update: One woman’s wild ideas
I posted a request on Peter Shankman’s HARO to get more ideas. Given I can’t stop smiling after reading two emails from one respondent, Dawn Marie, I just had to publish them ASAP:
First email…good ideas, many that people already have on their life lists
Below is short list of things I have accomplished and think every woman should do:
1. break up with a man who doesn’t deserve her instead of waiting for him to dump her
2. go skydiving over the Pacific
3. get your motorcycle license
4. go bungee jumping
5. hike a strenuous climb like Mount Washington
6. finish that degree—Master’s, BA, et cetera
7. quit that job that you find unbearable knowing that you will find something else
8. audition for a local theatre company
9. take art classes
10. research a subject that intrigues you
11. take yourself to a spa retreat
Women need to affirm their worth, beauty, and their unique contribution to the world to themselves. Doing daring, risk-taking activities helps us remember that we are no less adventurous than men and that we are full of life and vitality.
Second email…now THIS is what I’m talking about, definitely must-haves on the 75 list:
1. Become friends with your first boyfriend and best friends with his new girlfriend.
2. Introduce them both to your spouse.
3. Sleep with a man and then get out of bed and tell him he was the worst lover you have ever had; leave.
4. Tell a superior what you really think of his managing abilities.
5. Forgive a girlfriend for stealing your man when you were younger
6. Kick your best friend off maid-of-honor duties three weeks before your wedding if she is making you crazy.
7. Ask your ex-boyfriend’s sister to be the matron of honor instead.
8. Work with your boyfriend, lover, spouse and then quit, suggesting it is either your job or the relationship that has to go.
9. learn statistics and don’t tell anyone
10. When a woman stares you down in a bar, walk up to her and say hello, do I know you?
11. When a man stares at your chest and backside, ask him if it is the first time he has ever seen a woman.
