This morning as I got out of bed, I thought about everything I needed to do before going to the gym and how to most efficiently accomplish those things.
- Make coffee
- Have cereal
- Check my email
- Get dressed
- Plan my gym bag
My computer takes forever to turn on, so first thing was to hit the on button.
Then go to the kitchen, grind the coffee, and get it brewing. Coffee drinkers know that waiting for coffee to brew is even more painful than watching a teapot boil.
So next I got dressed and organized with whatever I was bringing to the gym.
Ran back to sign into my computer (a second step that takes a few minutes; yes I need to fix my computer).
By then I was dressed, the coffee made, so it was time to pour the cereal.
Now I could eat and drink in front of the computer while checking emails and reading the news. I was able to do all this pleasantly and in a minimum of time.
Instead of driving to the gym, which is less than a mile away, I walk or run especially in summer. This saves me from the indoor treadmill and saves gas and the hassle of parking.
I’m happy to see that Steve Pavlina, known for his great personal development articles, endorses efficient multitasking. If you tend to do things in a linear way, try planning out and hopping back and forth. 5 minutes gained is 25 minutes in a week!
Got tips?
