How to track your peak experiences with SuperViva

August 17th, 2006 by Susie

Lately I’ve been a slacker in terms of journaling memorable things, good days, or dreams.

Yesterday I had a particularly good day, in fact I called it a perfect day. I thought about writing it down in a paper journal then came to terms with the fact that I might not re-read the entry for years. Then I thought about writing it in a private blog.

Then it finally occured to me that SuperViva might be just what I was wanting* - to be able to see the trends in what makes a day or experience great.

*Imagine that (ha ha).

Whenever I have a peak experience or even a peak day, I could add my memories
as a "past" goal in SuperViva then add notes about it as a journal. For example I’ve realized that being at music events surrounded by raving fans makes me very very happy, whether it is an old punk show, the carnaval in Brazil, or a CSNY concert.

How I am tracking my peak experiences (see definition below)

I like how my experiment turned out. I’ll explain along with some visuals and see if SuperViva might be useful for you to track peak experiences in addition to your other memories and accomplishments.

1. I made a new "goal" titled PEAK DAY along with a little detail so I could easily see the gist of this entry.

Then I selected to mark it Private, added the date and picked "5" which I use as meaning extremely satisfying.

2. I jot down notes of the great things that happened to make this a peak day.

Toward the bottom of the "add a goal" form you can include various planning information for your goals. Here I only need to add Personal Notes. So I jot down a few of the things that made this such a great day.

Of course I could add some of these as separate "line items" on my list of things I’ve done. But I kind of felt that by themselves they weren’t so exciting. It was the fact that so many good things happened in one day that made this day so very swell.

I can group together my peak days at any time like this, on My List:

3. Voila - my life list offers an effortless way to review what my peak days have been. And over time I can see the trend of what my most thrilling, fulfilling or enlightening experiences have been.

On my list of things I’ve done, I can resort by clicking the column headings. I can click the Peak Experiences group and all of the "PEAK" goals will be shown together.

Learn more about grouping goals together.

Peak experience is a term used to describe certain extra-personal and ecstatic states, particularly ones tinged with themes of unification, harmonization and interconnectedness. Participants characterize these experiences, and the revelations imparted therein, as possessing an ineffably mystical (or overtly religious) quality or essence. (from Wikipedia)
