The farmer’s markets in Washington wowed me on a recent trip. It’s hard to wow me, coming from farmer’s mecca in California.
I happened upon the Bellevue market, near the big Microsoft HQ where a mobile woodfired pizza maker blew me away as did various bakeries, perfect bing cherries, and Estrella Family Creamery’s cheese. On my way to the airport I stopped at the Seattle farmer’s market on a Saturday, near University. Before the market I stopped by Zoka Coffee Roasters, a great place with wireless. All in all a Susie kind of visit.
If you don’t normally go to farmer’s markets I hope the explosive colors in these photos convince you otherwise! I’m happy farmer’s markets have become a part of the culture of so many towns and cities in the U.S. Meeting the people who grow the food we eat and purchasing directly from them, so they get a bigger piece of the blackberry pie, is great for our health and communities, not to mention our collective tastebuds and tummies.
