The Best Reason to Social Network [ December 4th, 2008 ] Posted in » Happiness

When you’re happy, you can start a happiness virus through your social network, according to a Harvard and UC San Diego study.

So update your Twitter and Facebook status with good things and spread the love!

No conclusive info about when you’re down, although I know that’s as good a people repellant as B.O.

And I was thinking the Twilight Zone was weird

Over the July 4th weekend, the Sci Fi channel ran a Twilight Zone marathon. I’ve been indulging in some episodes, marveling at Rod Serling’s hard-boiled pulp fiction style.

Then today I saw a Guardian UK article titled How to Get the Life You Really Want.  Needless to say I thought it was an article about SuperViva ;) (OK maybe I’m living in the Twilight Zone.)

In reality it was an article about people who are living their dream life through the multi-player Second Life virtual world game thing. "Hundreds of thousands
of people are seeking love, fortune and happiness through their 2D
alter egos in Second Life, a new virtual world

          "

Suddenly the Twilight Zone’s time traveling, martians, and multiple dimensions seems downright innocent.

Get Thee to the Farmer’s Market

The farmer’s markets in Washington wowed me on a recent trip. It’s hard to wow me, coming from farmer’s mecca in California.

I happened upon the Bellevue market, near the big Microsoft HQ where a mobile woodfired pizza maker blew me away as did various bakeries, perfect bing cherries, and Estrella Family Creamery’s cheese. On my way to the airport I stopped at the Seattle farmer’s market on a Saturday, near University. Before the market I stopped by Zoka Coffee Roasters, a great place with wireless. All in all a Susie kind of visit.

If you don’t normally go to farmer’s markets I hope the explosive colors in these photos convince you otherwise! I’m happy farmer’s markets have become a part of the culture of so many towns and cities in the U.S. Meeting the people who grow the food we eat and purchasing directly from them, so they get a bigger piece of the blackberry pie, is great for our health and communities, not to mention our collective tastebuds and tummies.

An Ask and Ye Shall Receive Tale

Excuse the Olde English but it was too appropriate.

For a while now I’ve had a goal to see the Foo Fighters on my list.

Yesterday I noticed that they were playing that very night in a small venue. But bummer, it was sold out.  I decided to check Craigslist for spare tickets. (In the bay area, "check Craigslist" is the punchline to almost every sentence starting with "I’m looking for…")

Instead of buying tickets, I looked for people who needed someone to accompany them to the show. I could not contain my excitement when a fellow fanatic offered me a spare 2nd row center ticket. We met at the theater, where not only did we enjoy one of the most incredible concerts ever but I got a  guitar pick to inspire me to learn Everlong in my second round of guitar classes.

Some people thought meeting a guy so spontaneously was daring. But when you’re meeting someone in a public place who loves the same band, to me that’s as safe as it gets. Music is the universal language of happiness!

I aspire for SuperViva to one day be able to match dream weavers together with dream wishers. Perhaps this blog can match you with me, if you want to help with that?!

Life is good. And if it’s not, make it so.

Overcoming Fears with Q&A

I can’t help but think this is an old concept, but I only heard it at a party yesterday and thought it was interesting.

You ask someone: "What are you afraid of?"

They answer and you ask again "why are you afraid of that?"
And keep asking that as they answer, getting to the root of it all. It’s also a way to intimately get to know people.

I haven’t tried it yet. Have you?
